This method of Quick Wash ISO(QWISO) extract makes the purest and most potent QWISO I’ve ever smoked. There are a couple tricks to this method that aren’t it many other QWISO recipes. First, we want to be using fresh bud that has been frozen in the freezer overnight. You can use dried bud if you want, but the quality of the end product won’t compare. Undried and frozen cannabis is key to making high quality hash oil, as the majority of the plant matter is barely touched by the solvent thus decreasing impurities. Secondly, we will decarboxylate the oil turning the barely psychoactive THC-A into the THC we’re all looking for. Because it’s done quickly and in succession there is none of the slow degradation to CBN and CBD that you get with slow curing.
- Pyrex Baking Dish
- Mesh Strainer
- Glass Bowl
- Mason Jar or other similar container
- New Razor Blade
- Coffee Filter
- Saran Wrap
- Fresh Marijuana (Stored in Freezer Overnight)
- 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. You can use 91% if you can't find 99% but I wouldn't go below that. Make sure the only other thing in the ISO is water.
Put your frozen buds into the mason jar or other suitable container. Pour enough Isopropyl Alcohol to slightly cover the buds. I usually go about 1cm over the bud.
Shake the jar vigorously for 30 seconds. DON’T shake longer than the 30 seconds, this is very important. If you let the alcohol stay in contact longer you’ll get more impurities in your final product.
Strain the jar contents through the mesh strainer and into the glass bowl.
Now strain the contents of the bowl through a coffee filter and into the pyrex baking dish. The resulting liquid should be fairly clear and pure. Due to the short amount of shaking time your final product should have barely any chlorophyl or other compounds, just yummy cannabinoids.
Turn your stove onto the lowest possible setting. Now turn on your exhaust fan and place the pyrex baking dish on top of the stove. We need to evaporate off the isopropyl alcohol so we are going to use the slight heat from the warming oven to speed up the process.
Once the QWISO has evaporated down to hash oil preheat the oven to 220°F.
Bake the pyrex baking dish in the oven at 220°F for 15-20 minutes.
Remove the pyrex baking dish from the oven, cover with saran wrap and move it to the freezer as soon as possible. The saran wrap is a great trick and keeps water from condensing on the hash oil when you remove it from the freezer. I usually put the pyrex baking dish onto a cutting board and then place the cutting board on top in my chest freezer. You can also just leave the pyrex dish out to cool before moving it to the freezer if you are not comfortable putting it in the freezer hot. The sooner you do get it into the freezer though the better. You need to freeze for a minimum of 2 hours.
Remove the pyrex dish from the freezer and begin scraping the hash oil off the glass. Try to work at a steady pace while the oil is still frozen and brittle.
Depending on the consistency of the oil I sometimes put it back in the freezer for a bit before proceeding. I like it to be a bit brittle and less sticky while I chop it up into the consistency that I want. I then store it in a small bottle in the freezer. You can store it at room temperature just fine, but I find the freezer keeps it a little less sticky making it much easier to work with.
You can now repeat steps 1 – 10 for a second rinse. This hash oil won’t be as high of quality as the first round, but it will still be pretty good. Since it’s the second time through the buds, this oil will have quite a few more impurities than the first wash.
